Cedar Fences & Gates — the Peninsula

The property the whole street notices.

Board-on-board western red cedar fences and gates for the Peninsula's finest homes — built beautifully, then built to last.

It starts with the cedar

We arrive with the cedar.

Full-length western red cedar, hand-picked at the mill and brought straight to your property — nothing substituted, nothing rushed.

The build begins

The first panel goes up.

The old screen holds the line until the last moment — then board-on-board cedar and a new gate post go in, plumb and capped to your grade.

Built by hand

The run takes shape.

Board by board down the line — black hardware, hidden fasteners, posts set to stand for decades. The work that only shows when it is done right.

One build, start to finish

The finished line.

A clean cedar run and a matched arched gate — the property the whole street notices. When you are ready, we will build yours.

Why Ironwood

Built by someone who answers the phone.

Ironwood Grounds is a small, owner-run operation on the Peninsula — not a rotating crew of subcontractors. You deal with the person who quotes your job, builds it, and stands behind it.

We take a limited number of projects at a time so every cedar run gets the attention it deserves. Real materials, fixed written quotes, and work we are glad to put our name on.

Straightforward pricing

Priced by the post and panel — not by the hour.

You see how the number is built. Then your written quote gives the exact price for your run, with gates, grade and old-fence removal included.

from $150per post — supplied & set in concrete
from $350per 8 ft board-on-board panel

Most cedar runs work out to around $60 a linear foot, supplied and installed. Taller fences, gates, difficult grade and site access can move the number — which is exactly why every job ends in one fixed written quote you approve before we start. No hourly billing, ever.

Where we work

The Peninsula, and only the Peninsula.

Staying local is how we keep quality high and scheduling tight. Ironwood Grounds works the Peninsula — South Surrey, White Rock, Ocean Park, Morgan Creek, Tsawwassen, Ladner and the wider Delta area.

Questions, answered

The details, before you ask.

How much does a cedar fence cost in South Surrey or White Rock?

Most Ironwood cedar runs start around $150 a post and $350 for an eight-foot board-on-board panel, supplied and installed — roughly $60 a linear foot before gates, grade and old-fence removal. Because every property is different, your fixed written quote after an on-site visit is the exact number you pay, never an hourly rate.

What type of wood do you use for your fences?

We build with western red cedar, suited to the coastal Metro Vancouver climate. It resists rot and insects naturally and weathers to a soft silver-grey, or holds a stain if you prefer to keep the warmth.

What is board-on-board fencing?

Board-on-board means the boards overlap on alternating sides of the rail, leaving no gaps as the cedar dries and moves. It gives full privacy, looks finished from both sides, and stays solid where a single-layer fence would open up over time.

How long does a western red cedar fence last?

A well-built western red cedar fence in this climate commonly lasts 15 to 25 years, depending on exposure and upkeep. Concrete-set posts, board-on-board construction, and corrosion-resistant hardware are what carry it to the long end of that range.

Do you repair existing fences or only build new ones?

We do both. Alongside new design-build fences we repair and restore existing cedar — replacing posts, resetting leaning sections and rebuilding gates — and we will tell you honestly when a repair is better value than a rebuild.

Which areas do you serve?

We work across the Peninsula communities of Metro Vancouver: South Surrey, White Rock, Ocean Park, Morgan Creek, Tsawwassen, Ladner and the wider Delta area. We keep the work local so we can measure, build and stand behind it without traveling far.

Are you insured?

Yes. Ironwood Grounds is WorkSafeBC insured, which covers our crew while they work on your property — worth confirming with any contractor before work begins.

Do you offer a warranty?

Every build comes with a written workmanship warranty, handed to you in writing rather than promised verbally. It covers the quality of our construction, separate from the natural weathering of the cedar itself.

How soon can you start, and how do I get a quote?

We usually book two to three weeks out. It begins with an on-site visit to measure and discuss the design, followed by a fixed written quote — once you approve it, that price is locked and we schedule the build.

Do I need a permit to build a fence?

Most residential fences within standard height limits do not require a permit, but rules on height and corner-lot sightlines vary by municipality. We flag anything on your property that should be confirmed with your city before we build.
